According to TheWrap, Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) has been tapped for the role of Catwoman/Selina Kyle in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman.
Robert Pattinson will play Batman in the upcoming Warner Bros. film. Reeves and Mattson Tomlin wrote the screenplay, and the film is being produced by Reeves and Dylan Clark. Michael E. Uslan is executive producing. It is set to start filming in January in the U.K.
Jonah Hill was most recently reported to have been in talks to play The Penguin/The Riddler, while Jeffrey Wright was in negotiations to star as Commissioner Gordon.
Kravitz is coming off her second season of HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” which aired its finale in July. She also has the Hulu series “High Fidelity” coming out later this year.
Anne Hathaway was the most recent actress to embody the thief in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” Michelle Pfeiffer also portrayed Catwoman in 1992’s “Batman Returns.” The feline-suited adversary received her own feature film, with Halle Berry in the titular role, back in 2004.
The Batman has been in development at Warner Bros. since 2015 when Ben Affleck signed on to the DCEU. Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) signed on to helm about a month after Affleck’s directorial departure with the added caveat that he’d get to rewrite the script from scratch.
Reeves’ story has been described as a character-driven project focusing on Batman’s experiences as the world’s greatest detective. The filmmaker has also said to expect a “Rogue’s Gallery” of villains in the movie. Oscar-nominated cinematographer Greig Fraser will serve as director of photography for the project.
The Batman will be released on June 25, 2021.
